Desktop Agent — Install & Permissions

Installing the Anastasis desktop agent

Install the desktop tracker on macOS, Windows, or Linux so approved work can create time and screenshot evidence.

The Anastasis desktop agent records billable time and captures screenshot evidence while you are clocked in on an active engagement. You only need to install it once per computer. It is available for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), and Linux (AppImage and .deb).

Install the app

From the contractor portal dashboard, find the Anastasis Desktop card. It offers the download for your operating system, with the other platforms one click away.
Download and install the app, then open it.
Link the app to your profile: click Sign in with your browser in the app, then Connect this computer in the portal tab that opens. Nothing to type. If that does not work, see linking your computer for the pairing-code fallback.
Review and accept the consent notice in the app. Tracking cannot start before you do.
When a shift starts, clock in from the app. Screenshots are captured only while you are clocked in.

Platform notes

  • macOS: the very first launch needs right-click the app → Open → Open — macOS asks for that confirmation for tools handed out directly rather than through the App Store. (Double-clicking shows a warning without an open option.) You must also grant Screen Recording permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security before tracking can start. Pick the download that matches your Mac: Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) or Intel.
  • Windows: SmartScreen may ask for an extra confirmation the first time, as it does for tools handed out directly rather than through the Microsoft Store. Choose More info → Run anyway. Confirm you downloaded the app from your Anastasis portal before continuing.
  • Windows with Smart App Control: if instead you see “Smart App Control blocked an app that may be unsafe”, there is no “run anyway” option — that feature blocks any app it cannot verify. First try right-clicking the downloaded file → Properties → tick UnblockApply, then open it again. If it is still blocked, the app can only be installed by turning the feature off: Windows Security → App & browser control → Smart App Control settings → Off. Windows does not let you switch it back on afterwards without reinstalling Windows, so it is your call — tell your Anastasis contact if you would rather not, and we will sort out another option with you.
  • Linux: the AppImage runs anywhere after chmod +x; the .deb installs system-wide on Debian/Ubuntu. Screenshot capture depends on the desktop session: on Wayland, install xdg-desktop-portal and accept the portal prompt; on X11 it works out of the box.

Updates

The Windows and Linux AppImage builds update themselves automatically. On macOS and the Linux .deb, the app notifies you when a new version is available and links you back to the portal to download it.
